Some of the negative impacts highlighted are problems in food supply, degradation of ecosystems or increased \u00ab<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41467-019-09246-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">health hazards and risks of natural disasters<\/a>\u00ab. In addition, extractive industries are highly polluting. They are responsible for half of the world&#8217;s carbon emissions and cause more than 80% of biodiversity loss. This is according to the most comprehensive environmental <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2019\/mar\/12\/resource-extraction-carbon-emissions-biodiversity-loss\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">account <\/a>of mining and agriculture ever carried out.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In spite of this, dependence on material resources has only increased, as evidenced by&nbsp; the extraction of <strong>natural resources <\/strong>which is increasing annually at an average rate of 3.2 %. This means that the rate of extraction is three times faster than in 1970, despite the fact that the population has only doubled in this period.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This acceleration in the use of material resources is accompanied by a growing dependence on these resources for growth. Today, we measure the development of different economies by GDP. This indicator is extrapolated to quantify the progress of a society. However, GDP is problematically related to other environmentally damaging parameters. Growth without economic growth.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>To ensure environmental conservation and promote a universal improvement in quality of life, it is necessary to <strong>reduce both GHG emissions and the material footprint<\/strong>. The European Environment Agency and Climate for Change&#8217;s report reinforces the need to act through systemic change:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The ongoing \u201cGreat Acceleration\u201d in loss of biodiversity, climate change, pollution and loss of natural capital is tightly coupled to economic activities and economic growth. Doughnut economics, post-growth and degrowth are alternatives to mainstream conceptions of economic growth that offer valuable insights. <\/p>\n<cite>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/climateofchange.info\/wellbeingeconomyreport.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Climate of Change<\/a> (2021). Towards a wellbeing economy that serves people and nature, p.27. <\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>In this context, approaches such as the <strong>Doughnut economics<\/strong>, <strong>post-growth<\/strong> and <strong>degrowth <\/strong>are particularly relevant. In the same way, the <strong>regenerative and distributive economy <\/strong>is another way of putting the brakes on extractive models, which are so harmful to the planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Principles_of_the_regenerative_economy\"><\/span>Principles of the regenerative economy<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Regenerative economics, also known as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/agenda\/2022\/01\/regenerative-capitalism-industry-explainer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">regenerative capitalism<\/a>, is a <strong>disruptive <\/strong>idea that thinks of ways to <a href=\"https:\/\/reallyregenerative.org\/regenerative-economics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">adjust and change our current economic model<\/a>: it seeks to create an economy in which \u00abwhich the planetary ecosystem and its resources are respected, not depleted beyond the ability to sustain planetary health, and in which the human experience is one which allows humans to achieve their highest potential through constant development and growth.\u00bb Regenerative economics forces us to think differently about human action in the environment. It is a basis for good governance, social stability and an economy in balance with the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, some of the <a href=\"https:\/\/capitalinstitute.org\/8-principles-regenerative-economy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">principles <\/a>of the <strong>regenerative economy<\/strong> include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Participatory empowerment&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Circularity and sobriety in the use of natural resources&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Local economy and community awareness&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cooperation rather than competition&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prosperity that respects <a href=\"https:\/\/aplanet.org\/resources\/the-current-status-of-earths-nine-planetary-boundaries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">planetary boundaries<\/a> and nature conservation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This economic model advocates that countries, companies, investors and consumers take a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/agenda\/2021\/06\/what-is-nature-positive-and-why-is-it-the-key-to-our-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">nature positive<\/a> approach. This approach allows us to limit the damage of our economic activities by focusing on the restoration and protection of ecosystems. A nature positive approach enriches biodiversity, stores carbon, purifies water and reduces future pandemic risks among others.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_is_a_regenerative_company\"><\/span>What is a regenerative company?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Regenerative companies are those that take concepts such as <strong>humanity and nature<\/strong> into account as a part of their business. They place them at the centre of their decision-making processes and strategic thinking. But what tangible impacts can these considerations have?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Companies in this category look at their entire product portfolio. They consider the most effective ways to turn each of them into a <strong>nature positive <\/strong>process. They combine economic, environmental and social criteria to generate innovative solutions to&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These types of organisations seek a <strong>positive impact<\/strong> on society. They transform traditional models from top to bottom. They adopt new ways of generating and developing their products or services to create value and they do so with <strong>sustainability <\/strong>as a central consideration in all facets of their operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Other_relevant_concepts_to_consider\"><\/span>Other relevant concepts to consider&nbsp;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the regenerative economic model, there are other relevant concepts that we have mentioned in this article. They are the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Degrowth_or_degrowth_theory\"><\/span>Degrowth or degrowth theory<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This refers to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalpolicyjournal.com\/sites\/default\/files\/pdf\/Parrique%20-%20From%20Green%20Growth%20to%20Degrowth.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">post-growth economic model<\/a>. This would be achieved through the planned and democratic <strong>reduction of production and consumption<\/strong> in the richest and most polluting regions of the world. The degrowth model appeals to sufficiency, and argues that buying and selling less stuff is a faster and safer path to ecological sustainability. This would reduce environmental pressures and inequalities while improving welfare.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Doughnut_Economics\"><\/span>Doughnut Economics<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>British economist <strong>Kate Raworth<\/strong> invented it in a report published by Oxfam in 2012. With this theory, she proposed a new humanist economic model based on two premises:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>World poverty must be eradicated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Extraction must end in a world of limited resources.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Its name reflects its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kateraworth.com\/doughnut\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">graphical representation<\/a> which resembles a doughnut. The central circle is the social base, the outer circle is the ecological ceiling and the central space is where humanity can progress if the limits of the planet are respected. Both circles coincide with the <strong>2030 Sustainable Development Goals<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Circular_economy\"><\/span>Circular economy<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"What If We Don\u2019t Buy Products and We Buy Service?
