This is something far bigger than the moonshot or other intiatives that it\u2019s often compared to because this <strong>involves every economy on Earth, every government and ultimately every citizen.<\/strong> All of us have to be involved and change the way we live. Governments reached this&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/unfccc.int\/news\/patricia-espinosa-outlines-the-four-keys-to-success-at-cop26\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">consensus<\/a> at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/aplanet.org\/resources\/cop26-summary-for-businesses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>COP 26, the<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>United Nations Conference on Climate Change<\/strong>, in 2021<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the most committed countries are those of the&nbsp;<strong>European Union<\/strong>.&nbsp;The 27 members, like the United States, want to be&nbsp;<strong>climate neutral by 2030<\/strong>&nbsp;which means that by then, emissions should be reduced by 55%. China sets this target for 2060.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/aplanet.org\/resources\/corporate-sustainability-in-the-uk-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">United Kingdom<\/a>&nbsp;<\/strong>has been the first country to commit by law to have neutral emissions in 2050. For its part, the EU has published a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/aplanet.org\/resources\/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-new-eu-taxonomy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">regulation for the dissemination of non-financial information<\/a>&nbsp;in companies.&nbsp;<strong>The EU taxonomy<\/strong> classifies sustainable activities and requires the publication of environmental business plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although these agreements are encouraging, no one is yet reducing the so-called&nbsp;<strong>Nationally Determined Contributions<\/strong>&nbsp;(NDCs).&nbsp;These NDCs refer to the short term until 2030. They must get on track for zero net emissions as soon as possible, which means taking firm steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_way_forward_for_zero_emissions\"><\/span><strong>The way forward for zero emissions<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The first step is to achieve&nbsp;<strong>climate neutrality<\/strong>&nbsp;, denoted by the goal of zero polluting gases by 2050.
